Heres Why Focus Groups Are an Ideal Side Hustle - OppLoans

Heres Why Focus Groups Are an Ideal Side Hustle - OppLoans Heres Why Focus Groups Are an Ideal Side Hustle Heres Why Focus Groups Are an Ideal Side HustleWithout committing to a new routine or schedule, focus groups offer the incentive of a side hustle without the time burden.Scour Craigslist on any given day in a major metropolitan area and you’re bound to see a plethora of focus group listings. Topics from fast food to car preferences, technology to mock juries, businesses of all kinds rely on the honest opinions of strangersâ€"and they’ll pay for it.Focus groups can last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or even a full day. They can happen in person, by phone or online and they can be extremely lucrative. Not all will be worth the time investment, but $200 for an hour talking about your last vacation? That’s not so bad.In the gig economy, $200/hour is nothing to sneeze at and experts in the art of the side hustle are quick to defend the power of the focus group for freelancers or nine-to-fivers alike. Why focus groups? When it comes to the hustle Nick Loper (@nloper), chief h ustler at SideHustleNation.com  is one who knows his way around them. He even did a round-up of 10 of the best paying online focus groups back in 2017.“Ive been on several paid consumer research gigs, and theyre always interesting,” Loper said when asked about his experience with focus groups. “The first one was super random. Back in 2005 or 2006, a woman approached me in the parking garage of my condo in Atlanta and asked if I wanted to get paid to drink beer and if I had any friends who might be interested as well. So I went to taste test this new beer with a couple friends and we got paid $75 each!”MillennialMoney.com  (@MillennialMoney) goes so far as to ask whether  focus groups are the perfect side hustle. In the article by Grant Sabatier (@sabatier), founder of Millennial Money and author of Financial Freedom, he ultimately decides they might not be the best side hustle, but their relative value certainly makes  focus groups a great option.“In most cases focus group s are actually a lot of fun, because not only do you get paid for your opinions, you also get to make a real difference,” according to Sabatier’s article. “Your voice matters and your input is actively used by the companies hiring out the focus group firm, so you get to influence what products may be coming to store shelves soon.”Loper agrees that focus groups are still a viable and valuable part of the marketing process in the world today.“One-on-one conversations with customers are always helpful,” he explained.Getting started. Thanks to the internet there are a lot of ways to aggregate market research organizations. Craigslist is an option, but there are several lists of viable companies to sort through in articles like this one by Crowdworknews.com.To make the most out of your time, do not fill out surveys unless they’re screeners for qualified focus group participants. Surveys where you might win some cash aren’t the most efficient side hustles. If you refer back to Loper’s list of ten high paying online focus group companies, youll have a great start to your focus group journey. Especially because online focus groups are much more convenient than in-person ones.Loper acknowledges that the online studies are harder to come by, however, so be prepared for your focus group adventures to take place largely in person. And know that, while lucrative, focus group income is unreliable income.“I definitely wouldnt consider it an income stream to rely on, but its a nice little bonus if you have the free time,” Loper added. That said, earning $100 or $200 at a time for market research definitely adds up.Focus groups can be a lot of fun and very interesting, especially when discussing things you genuinely care about. Remember, when filling out screeners there are no wrong answers. The research organizations want a variety of viewpoints. And even if you aren’t chosen for a group every time, don’t be discouraged. There are a lot of opportunities out there.Later on in his article, Sabatier recommends checking out FocusGroup.com for a well-rounded collection of open focus group opportunities across many areas of interest and parts of the country.Use that extra money wisely.Sabatier also advises investing at least 50 percent of your focus group income at a time to further expand upon your hustling nest egg. And if you dont have an emergency fund already, thats another great place for you to put your side hustle money. The more money you can earn and the more savings you can build, the less likely youll be to get caught flat-footed by an unexpected bill or financial shortfall, relying on short-term bad credit loans and no credit check loans (like payday loans, title loans, and cash advances) to make ends meet.To learn more about how you can increase your earning power, check out these other posts and articles from OppLoans:Need Cash Fast? However, there are some furnishings from the globalization which allegedly can be classified as absolute furnishings and abrogating effects. The abrogating furnishings of globalization are bribery of a nation and communicable countries by bearing actinic decay and air pollution. Meanwhile, advance of apprenticeship throughout world is one of the absolute abandon of globalization. Thus, the all-embracing association should endeavor by deepening the all-embracing banking system, through international financial system, trade and aid to advice the poorest countries accommodate into the a abridgement so that allows them to abound added rapidly a nd cut down the abjection in that decidedly country. By this way, all people from all countries accept a adventitious to accretion allowances from the globalization process. Finally, people should apprehend that although we can analyze and analyses the action of globalization, we should not brainstorm that this action of globalization will go on always and that this action is irreversible Causes and Effects of Globalization Globalization from the discussion all organization, the overextension throughout the world and the intended of accepting a globalized association is to accept alternation of the world and its people with the affair of self-development and self-interests. Now days, people can calmly affiliated to each other than before. In fact advice and money transferring faster than ever around, the world. Besides, country are more advance to all locations of the world. This amazing phenomenon can be declared as by globalization. Basically, globalization is the alternatio n a part of countries in adjustment to advance the all-around abridgement and society. Moreover, action such as bounded economies, societies and cultures that had contributed decidedly to the development of all-around arrangement of communication, global network, transportation and trade is classified as globalization. Globalization is fast anytime growing force that afflicted the world into bigger active abode and key factors that accord to globalization are the ability of all embracing transportation, advance of the technologies and making international trade and profitable. Globalization is the action that has been growing on for the accomplished 5000 years, but it had added acutely back the bribery of the Soviet Union in1991(Riggs. 2000). At the alpha date of globalization abstraction is referred to by restructure the world economy during the backward twentieth century. The globalization carefully accent on the accelerated change in the technical, social, political and territ orial alignment of investment, assembly and trade. Besides, a lot of accessible change that acquired by globalization are the Auto nationalization of communication, business assembly and backroom which had added the animation of the bazaar appeal and the cardinal ascendance of banking basic as well specialized services. In fact, the key agency of (NGOs) and another government alignment (AGOs). Globalization is as well accepted as action four ambits which are bread-and-butter globalization, the accumulation of world outlook, democratization and political globalization. Noticeably, globalization is a comparer and arguable trends that cover abstruse developments, cultural dynamics and authoritative strategies for all-around antagonism which had accretion back 1980s. Currently, the globalization upsurge been apprenticed by the behavior that economies to be opened domestically and internationally so that all-embracing automated and banking business anatomy to abound rapidly in all countr ies. In fact, the key agency that triggers globalization is the progressive technologies that afflicted people life. One of the causes of globalization is the adeptness of all-embracing of International transportation as an important aspect of all all-around market. All International transportation refers to a bureau that causes International trade to extend; international trade requires infrastructures which can back trade between several companies. In the meantime haft of the global trade , transpires amongst other locations of added than 3000 kilometers away, a lot of all international goods movements absorb several modes abnormally if the destination are far abroad from each other. One of the rewards of Maritime shipping and air transport are it handles about 90 percent of the all global trade which includes a alternation of getaways acceding admission to main production and consumption region (Jean, 2010). Meanwhile, the reputation of air transport carriage is, it carries in ternational air freight which is about 70 times more costly than its maritime counterpart (Jean, 2010). The active agency that leads to the action of globalization is the advance of the advice technologies (IT) which had afflicted the world dramatically. In the early1990s, the development of computer hardware, software and telecommunication had acquired the advanced advance improvements in admission to advice and economical potential. Advice technologies provide the advice network that facilitates the accession of products, account and assets a part of nations and people throughout the world (Bestshy, 2010). Since, appliance of IT advance abnormally accelerated about every aspect of activity in this automated societies are depend on the artefact based aloft and added advice technology. For instance, alone scientists were application the internet had adapted into commercial networks, which allows users to accomplish transactions, for businesses to administer the breeze of assembly inputs and markets products. IT makes activity easier for people as it provides websites, chat room, instant messaging, systems, e-mails and added internet based advice arrangement to contact and exchanging account with each other. (Information, technology and globalization, 2006). Briefly accession of IT had afflicted association acutely and accept created new jobs answer the advance of new markets and added international trade and investment. Another could cause that triggers accelerated globalization is making international trade and action profitable. Economist believed that globalization increases the bread-and-butter befalling and abundance to the developing world. International trade become significantly profitable throughout the process of openness to foreign direct investment stimulating of domestic capital formation and enhancing efficiency and productivity by the foreign direct investment can contribute to the economic growth. Indeed, barter liberalization is begin to access bread-and-butter opportunities for customer and producers to lift up earning for workforce and that beneath greater artlessness to trade, assets tend to be reallocated abroad from beneath able activities and appear advantageous activities. Surprisingly, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) managed to allure the artlessness appear the charge less breeze of capital, which leads to the development of calm investment and accord to application bearing for bread-and-butter growth. For instance, the advance of growth to world trade can be reflected by the access of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in developing countries which had added from USD 2.2 billion in 1970 to USD 154 billion in 1997 and resulted in national capital market to become integrated significantly (Zaher, 2008). Banking artlessness absolutely helps to access the abyss and across of calm banking markets which could cause to access the ability in banking markets through lower costs and bigger assets allocation. These a re the three causes that buried the seeds for accelerated globalization and the furnishings of globalization that people will face are the corruption, abuse and the advance of education. The number one effect of globalization is the bribery of economic and political in the accurate developed country. As developed nations increases the captivation in world economy, the strengths of the banking and government institutions are put into test. If the institutions are strong, the economic assets from globalization but if they are weak, aggregate of assets are absent which leads to the bribery of the nations. In fact, the bankruptcies of so abounding companies as well affect the government because banks will accrue loans while accident ethics of audience due to recession-government which depend on company taxes and banks will act abhorrent abridgement in acquirement and development expenditures which leads to the bribery of a nation (Mahathir, 2002, 230). Besides, corruption affects the po orest country the most, especially poorer countries as they usually export agricultural good which does not make a lot of profit as larger countries provide all sorts of financial aid such subsidies for their farmers to lower the market price under the free trade (Shah,2008). Corruption of a nation would most likely probably undermine development and degrade inequality, altering the decision for making in favor projects that benefits the nation and increase the debt of the nation as a result of lost in global economy. One of the bad furnishings of globalization is abuse that is acquired by factories such as actinic decay and air pollution. A lot of the manufactures nowadays are just throwing the decay chemicals into the adjacent river which produces air pollution without bearing in mind about the cleanliness of the environment. All that appear into their apperception is the profits after aggravation about the after-effects of accomplishing such things. Amount of advisers consider s that there is a band amid assets per capita and the ambiance area abrogating an after-effect ascent with per capita assets able-bodied developed nationsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ area per capita is low, and more pressing social needs enjoy priority over environmental regulation adjustment are needed (Roan, 2010). Negative effects on the environment such as air pollution still occurs although the governments in some developed countries enforced rules on the protections of the environment. In addition, globalization contributes air pollution because big industry takes opportunity from careless environmental controls in developing nations and moves its manufacturing facilities to such pollution asylum ´ from where air pollution travels around the globe of world without obstacles (Pollution Effects on Humans, Animals, Plants and the Environment, 2008). Globalization has a positive side as well and the positive effect globalization is the spread of education. Education is vital for p eople as it acts like an instrument to enhance our knowledge, develop our skills and talent that can produce educated workforce that will be a great profit to the country in the future (Yoho et al. ND, 11).The massive spread of education at all levels because the consequence of widely available schooling as a result of globalization process in this century. Regarding the role of schools globalization has become significant chapter of study especially in the field of comparative education, which applies social theories. Besides, the effects of globalization on education also triggers the development in technology and communications such as innovation of learning system across the world such as ideas and knowledge to adapt the students into information based society. It helps in shaping children to be the future citizen into global citizen who are intelligent with broad range of knowledge to apply in the competitive society and thus reflects the cultural imperialism (Cinema, 2005). Ed ucation system now face the dual challenge of producing students with the fundamentals knowledge, skills and value needed to be spirited in a global market while at the time producing graduates who are responsible to be good citizen towards their country and the world.12 Conclusion In conclusion, as globalization continuing progressed around in all countries during this aeon which acquired by the ability of transportation, advance of technologies and authoritative all-embracing international trade and enterprise is cost effective. However, there are some furnishings from the globalization which allegedly can be classified as absolute furnishings and abrogating effects. The abrogating furnishings of globalization are bribery of a nation and communicable countries by bearing actinic decay and air pollution. Meanwhile, advance of apprenticeship throughout apple is one of the absolute abandon of globalization. Thus, the all-embracing association should endeavor by deepening the al l-embracing banking system, through international financial system, trade and aid to advice the atomic countries accommodate into the a abridgement so that allows them to abound added rapidly and cut down the abjection in that decidedly country. The Jury Trial Stage of a Criminal Case

A criminal trial is scheduled if a defendant continues to plead not guilty after the preliminary hearing and plea bargain negotiations have ended. If pre-trial motions have failed to get evidence thrown out or the charges dismissed, and all efforts at plea bargaining have failed, the case proceeds to trial. At the trial, a panel of jurors determines if the defendant is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt or not guilty. The vast majority of criminal cases never get to the trial stage. Most are resolved prior to trial in the pre-trial motion stage or the plea bargain stage. There are several distinct phases of a criminal trial proceeding: Jury Selection In order to choose a jury, typically 12 jurors and at least two alternates, a panel of dozens of potential jurors are summoned to the court. Usually, they will fill out a questionnaire prepared in advance that contains questions submitted by both the prosecution and the defense. Jurors are asked if serving on the jury would present a hardship on them and they are usually asked about their attitudes and experiences that might lead them to be biased in the case before them. Some jurors are typically excused after filling out the written questionnaire. Questioning Potential Jurors Both the prosecution and the defense are then allowed to question the potential jurors in open court about their potential biases and their background. Each side can excuse any juror for cause, and each side is given a number of peremptory challenges that can be used to excuse a juror without giving a reason. Obviously, both the prosecution and the defense want to choose jurors who they think are more likely to agree with their side of the argument. Many a trial has been won during the jury selection process. Opening Statements After a jury is selected, its members get their first view of the case during the opening statements by the prosecution and the defense attorneys. Defendants in the United States are presumed innocent until proven guilty, so the burden is on the prosecution to prove its case to the jury. Consequently, the prosecutions opening statement is first and goes into great detail outlining the evidence against the defendant. The prosecution gives the jury a preview of how it plans to prove what the defendant did, how he did it and sometimes what his motive was. Alternate Explanation The defense does not have to make an opening statement at all  or even call witnesses to testify because the burden of proof is on the prosecutors. Sometimes the defense will wait until after the entire prosecutions case is presented before making an opening statement. If the defense does make an opening statement, it is usually designed to poke holes in the prosecutions theory of the case and offer the jury an alternative explanation for the facts or evidence presented by the prosecution. Testimony and Evidence The main phase of any criminal trial is the case-in-chef in which both sides can present witness testimony and evidence to the jury for its consideration. Witnesses are used in order to lay  a foundation for the admitting of evidence. For example, the prosecution cannot just offer a handgun into evidence until it establishes through witness testimony why the gun is relevant to the case and how it is linked to the defendant. If a police officer first testifies that the gun was found on the defendant when he was arrested, then the gun can be admitted into evidence. Cross-Examination of Witnesses After a witness testifies under direct examination, the opposing side has the opportunity to cross-examine the same witness in an effort to discredit their testimony or challenge their credibility or otherwise shake their story. In most jurisdictions, after the cross-examination, the side who originally called the witness can ask a question on re-direct examination in an effort to rehabilitate any damage that might have been done on cross-examination. Closing Arguments Many times, after the prosecution rests its case, the defense will make a motion to dismiss the case because the evidence presented did not prove the defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Rarely does the judge grant this motion, but it does happen. It is often the case that the defense does not present witnesses or testimony of its own  because they feel they were successful in attacking the prosecutions witnesses and evidence during cross-examination. After both sides rest their case, each side is allowed to make a closing argument to the jury. The prosecution attempts to strengthen the evidence they presented to the jury, while the defense attempts to convince the jury that the evidence falls short and leaves room for reasonable doubt. Jury Instructions An important part of any criminal trial is the instructions that the judge gives to the jury before they begin deliberations. In those instructions, in which the prosecution and the defense have offered their input to the judge, the judge outlines the ground rules the jury must utilize during its deliberations. The judge will explain what legal principles are involved with the case, describe important concepts of law such as reasonable doubt, and outline to the jury what findings they must make in order to come to their conclusions. The jury is supposed to abide by the judges instructions throughout their deliberation process. Jury Deliberations Once the jury retires to the jury room, the first order of business is usually to elect a foreman from its members to facilitate the deliberations. Sometimes, the foreman will take a quick poll of the jury to find out how close they are to an agreement, and get an idea of what issues need to be discussed. If the initial vote of the jury is unanimous or very one-sided for or against guilt, jury deliberations can be very brief, and the foreman reports to the judge that a verdict has been reached. A Unanimous Decision If the jury is not initially unanimous, discussions between jurors continue in an effort to reach a unanimous vote. These deliberations can take days or even weeks to complete if the jury is widely split or has one holdout juror voting against the other 11. If the jury cannot come to a unanimous decision and is hopeless split, the jury foreman reports to the judge that the jury is deadlocked, also known as a hung jury. The judge declares a mistrial and the prosecution has to decide whether to retry the defendant at another time, offer the defendant a better plea deal or drop the charges altogether.

Saussure, Freud, Marx on Literary Criticism free essay sample

This paper examines the approaches to literary criticism of Saussure, a linguist, Freud, a psychoanalyst and Marx, an economist. Saussure defies the popular notion that language is a process of giving names to ideas we already have (963). In other words, there are no ideas without words. Many people believe that ideas came first, then the concept of language. However, how can an idea exist if there is no way for it to be expressed? It would not be an idea, but rather, a subconscious thought that would be meaningless. For example, a baby does not have the power of language nor can he express his thoughts. He can cry when he is hungry, but it does not necessarily result from his hunger. The baby cannot distinguish between hunger and any other feeling. There are no pre-existing ideas, and nothing is distinct before the appearance of language (Saussure 967). The baby cannot comprehend hunger, for he does not have a name to express it with. How to Write a Discussion Section of a Research Paper

How to Write a Discussion Section of a Research Paper How to Write a Discussion Section of a Research Paper The discussion section of a research paper is dedicated to interpretation of your findings and their significance. Here, you discuss what has already been found about the problem by other researchers, and present your fresh view on the issue, taking into consideration all evidence and facts. This part of a research paper is very indicative of your progress as a student. The discussion section can be considered the most important part of the research paper, because it demonstrates your analytical skills. A good discussion section needs a critical approach to the question, and your ability to synthesize the findings of your research. If it has revealed any gaps in the field, this is also a good section to highlight these gaps, and give your suggestions on the possible improvements. Also, your discussion should be logically structured. There are several types of text structures, so you need to decide which one will be the most suitable, considering the type of research you are conducting. How to Structure Your Discussion Section We can allocate two types of structures you can use to organize the discussion section – vertical and horizontal. Vertical structure of the text is comprised of information presented in a hierarchical manner, relating to general elements and more specific ones. The topic unfolds into subtopics, subcategories and separate arguments. You have to keep in mind, that from your point of view, the argument and facts are arranged in a descending manner, taking into consideration how you intend to communicate your thoughts, speculations and conclusions. On the other hand, your reader will perceive all information in an ascending manner, from more specific elements to the general understanding of your topic. The horizontal structure is formed by creating cohesion between your findings. This cohesion is achieved by means of language devices, such as conjunctions, references and omission of words or phrases that can be logically derived from a sentence. All facts, arguments and speculations should be presented consistently, using logical connectives and references. Which Type of Structure is Better There is no right or wrong, it just depends on your findings. The horizontal structure is especially relevant when you are conducting an interdisciplinary research. There is no hierarchy between independent disciplines, so you need a structure which will highlight the relations between facts that belong to different fields. Vertical structure employs the deductive approach to research. If you start proving your thesis statement from a generalization and build your way to a conclusion by analyzing separate element of the general notion, then a vertical structure is more suitable for you discussion section. Points to Consider Whichever structure you decide to choose, your discussion section should have a brief summary of the importance of your findings for the field you study. You can also give your opinion on possible directions for future research, but add only those, that could not be researched in this particular paper. If you give recommendations for further research, remember to avoid repeating your statements in the conclusion section of your research paper. There is no use in wasting space with repetitions, and it can give an impression that you were careless with your final edit of the paper. And finally, on account of the overall research paper, avoid using first person too much. It can distract the reader from the main point of the paper – research.

The shear box test on soil Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

The shear box test on soil - Essay Example The shear box test has an advantage over test because of the simplicity of equipment used and the ease in setting it up. The Shear test box also tests soil samples under different conditions such as consolidation, drainage, and saturation conditions. Another advantage of the shear box test is that it is easy to visualize what is happening to the soil as the test is being carried out. Various processes using the shear box test determine these properties. In determining the soil, these properties the results of the test are tabulated and graphs are drawn. Interpretation of the graphs is what gives significant meaning to some of the soil properties being studied. Purpose of the test A shear box test is used in geotechnical engineering to test various properties of soil. These soil properties include; friction angle, peak shear strength, soil cohesion, and the residual shear strength of the soil being studied. The key purpose for carrying out the test is to enable geotechnical engineers decide on the consolidated-drained shear strength of a silt to sandy soil. Shear strength is a very important aspect in engineering when determining soil properties. This is because most structures are based on soil’s shearing strength or resistance. Therefore, any time a structure is to be constructed it is important that the soil’s shear resistance be analyzed as the first step to decide on the whether it will be possible to construct. The shear strength of a discontinuity is considered to be of lower strength when compared to blocks with intact material between the discontinuities. These important facts and the results of shear tests enable the engineers to determine important aspects of engineering. These include determining the bearing dimensions for foundations, computing the stability of cuts and slopes, and in finding the amount of pressure that an area of soil exerts on the wall it retains (Price & De Freitas, 2009, p. 361). Brief description of the test set u p The Apparatus â€Å"A definitive test apparatus mainly consists of the following apparatus. Rigid split box that has a top and a bottom these are place inside a shear box carriage, which is box, shaped. The carriage rests on a pair of rollers that are aligned to move along two grooved tracks. The shear apparatus is controlled by a motor, which is also connected in the apparatus† (Huat, et al., 2005, p. 1284). The set up The test is carried out on three or four specimen taken from a comparatively undisturbed soil samples. The set-up of the test experiment follows the following procedures: 1. The first step is to weigh the initial mass of the soil sample 1. Next is to take the shear box’s measurements that are the diameter and height 2. From the measurements calculate what 15 percent of the diameter will be in millimeters 3. Next step involves assembling the shear box and placing it into the shear device. 4. Place a porous stone and a filter paper into the shear box 5. Pour the soil sample, for example sand, inside the shear box and remove the top layer to ensure it is level 6. Put a porous stone on top of the sand then cover it with a filter paper and then place the top plate which usually has a ball 7. After that take away the alignment screws that are in the shear box and using these screws open the gap that is between the two shear box halves to 0.025 inches. After that remove the screws from the gaps 8. Take the weight of the soil again and calculate the total mass of soil used 9. Finish assembling the device and set the three

Marketing Audit on a 1 shop Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words

Marketing Audit on a 1 shop - Essay Example According to the figures released earlier this year, Poundland reported an 81.5% increase in profits from the previous year. Poundworld posted record profits of ?5.4m in on sales of ?133m. Buying from these pound points provides incredible value for money to the consumers, and with budgets stretched, it makes pound shops very preferable for them. The low prices are made possible due to low costs incurred in their model, by these shops. A conscious effort to keep a check on costs is made, in terms of overhead expenses and direct costs. Pound shops are able to save large chunk of money by buying in bulk quantities. They don’t shelve varieties for their products, but usually stack on products from one or two manufacturers for each category. This allows them a lot of bargaining power with the suppliers. Since they only have to stock few varieties for each product category, they can always switch to those suppliers that offer the lowest rates. Even renowned brands have supplied the ir products to pound shops, recently. Pound shops’ model is based on keeping prices at the low price points, ensuring there’s price consistency across the shop, and which continues overtime. This creates greater certainty for the customers, who confidently return to the shop, knowing they would be able to shop without draining on their low budgets. For the administration too, it’s a relief, since they don’t have to spend time and hire resources, to calculate prices for each product item. All product items can be arranged anywhere in the shop, and rearranged to change the display, without worrying about changing tags, or shelves. Pound shops also don’t undergo price inflation. This certainty gives them a rare advantage over other consumer retail and other avenues of consumers’ pounds, where inflation can be a huge drain on consumers’ already limited incomes. Pound shops try to absorb inflation by negotiating harder with suppliers so th ey continue getting products at same level of prices. Alternatively, they might switch to another supplier, which, however, could be offering products which are inferior to those previously offered. However, at times, pound shops have been known to counter inflation by other means too. Instead of increasing prices, they have reduced the quantity of product offered. 99p Stores, for instance, were selling 200g Toblerones but later the chocolate bars were only 170g in weight. In general, however, the zero-price inflation, price consistency, and of course low prices, ensure a large customer base for pound shops. In times of recession and low economic growth, when wages don’t increase by much, if at all, low wage earners find pound shops extremely valuable. When unemployment is relatively high, more people are living off benefits. Middle and upper classes too feel compelled to look for value in their shopping, and then there are students and other such groups of consumers who are very conscious about their spending. With their unique business model, pound shops are able to reach out to, and cater to, a larger customer base than other retailers. Pound shops also employ an effective tool in their marketing mixes- that of psychological pricing, in pricing. 99c is a successful price point chain in UK, and others also use the psychological pricing effectively, to give the consumer the perception of greater value for money. Achieving Cultural Awareness: Through Teaching Slavery

Achieving Cultural Awareness: Through Teaching Slavery What are the benefits of introducing Worldviews when teaching students about Slavery in the United States of America as it relates to cultural awareness? Society has become the social norm for what is culturally right or wrong as it relates to the many diverse cultures in the United States of America. American social-cultural tolerance is founded on the social model that diversity exists and must be accepted, without disparities. I will show that incorporating worldviews during the unit of study involving slavery may promote and encourage cultural awareness. This literature review will provide a comprehension review of the literature relating to the importance of incorporating worldviews with the teaching of Slavery in America. The purpose of introducing worldview into the Common Core State Sstandards is to encourage and promote cultural awareness (Core Standards.org,2017). Todays students need to avoid the error made by the protagonist in the puritan debates of simplifying the position taken by the various figures in the controversy. We also need to avoid interpreting the events in terms to 20th century values. There is no question that the values and concerns of men and women like John Winthrop, Thomas Dudley, Roger Williams, and Anne Hutchinson are different from ours. But focusing on how they sought to define the limits of their society may help us to understand our own struggles to define the limits of acceptable belief and behavior Francis J. Bremer (Bremer,2009-2016). How has society become the social normhas culture diversity influenced it? I think your quote should go after encourager cultural awareness.and your statement after that to support why you are using that quote.its kind of hanging out there. In the social realm, worldview is a term that should be embraced, but many teachers are apprehensive of discussing such topics. The apprehension starts with the lack of resources for strategically implementing the knowledge and fundamentals of worldviews. For one to be culturally aware, one must respect the differences that make everyone so unique. Religion, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, homelessness, bullying, is not going anywhere; teachers can take a stand to start teaching multicultural awareness simply through an incorporation of Worldviews. The literature that was gathered consisted of research studies and articles that specified (specify) the importance of teaching worldviews and slavery. As the researcher, I focused on studies, articles, and books that provided solutions to teaching worldviews and controversial topics. Students cannot embrace diversity when they know nothing about worldviews. The benefit of strategically incorporating worldviews will provide insight, meaning, information, knowledge, and content of slavery and all other monumental historical events. Negative bias will decrease, and academic achievement will increase as students learn about worldviews and slavery together. The term worldview is defined as the framework of beliefs by which a person views the world around him (Hindson Caner, 2008, p. 498). This definition clearly justifies why it is imperative to incorporate worldviews when teaching slavery in America. I like to use any other word than buthowever fits good. Implementing..worldviews concerning what? Diversity with the 21st century due to issues such as globalization has made is so that one has to releases the limiting mindsets such as discrimination if one is to become fully engaged in the changes within the worlds we know it today. The literature gather for this paper consist of studies. (I believe students can better educated and have a better understand of the world they are growing up if they are receive the proper education.) =============== (The benefit of strategically incorporating worldviews is there will be an increase inand an decrease in negative bias.) Question what do you mean by strategically incorporating worldviews? Is it necessary to strategically incorporate teaching of slavery into school curriculum? Or is that to say it should become an active component of the current history system to give a fuller view of World history as well as American history . I thing strategically incorporating does not add the emphasis on accepting your argumentit sounds like you are trying to sneak it in past some opposition. You brought the worldview definition after you used it earlier. I would bring this out earlier if I am defining a term that I will use throughout my writing The Future of Tourism in the UAE: An analysis The Future of Tourism in the UAE: An analysis The Future of Tourism in the UAE Introduction The United Arabs Emirates has recorded significant developments in the recent past in a number of sectors. Travel and Tourism industry, one of the sectors, has since its initiation indicated high significance in the economic developments. Such economic developments have yielded a direct contribution of about 20 percent and consequent 6 percent in the entire GDP and total employment opportunities. Dubai, for instance, has a record of being among the top ten tourism destination cities in the world, fundamentally propelled by the numerous business ventures and leisure activities that are well established. Among other sectors of the economy in UAE, tourism is thriving so well because of the excellent establishments, infrastructure, and landmark projects like the Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa, and Meydaan racecourse, which are in addition to the marketing initiatives pumped in by the Emirates and DTCM. Existence and continuous success of the travel segment within the Tourism industry has been dependent of the high disposable income generation and an additionally high proportion of available expertise for the outbound travel from the city (Arab News, 2004). During Expo 2020 the tourism can visit many places in country for examples in addition to Dubai tourist places they can also enjoy to visit other places such as Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, Saadyat Island and many places also in Al Ain city. Abu Dhabi Tourism supports and promotes the heritage and culture of Abu Dhabi emirate and leverages them in the development of a world-class, sustainable destination of distinction which enriches the lives of visitors and residents alike. Contemporary Issue in Business The contemporary issues in business come from the ever-changing business and tourist sectors environment. All organizations operating in the UAE, whatever their size and whether in the public or private tourist sector, operate in a frequently changing business environment. Within this change, organizations have the opportunity to improve and grow up. The World Expo 2020 which is going be hold in UAE – Dubai will boost infrastructure in the city and help the growth of the emirate in the long-term. The infrastructure that will be created for Expo 2020 will be of great benefit to Dubai to continue growing by itself into the future (http://gulfnews.com/business/tourism/dubai-to-use-expo-2020). Dubai is enhancing its tourism and trade marketing efforts as it prepares to welcome 20 million visitors annually by 2020, which is underlined in Dubai’s tourism vision for 2020. Research Problem The United Arab Emirates is home to a rich culture heritage that has since time immemorial, been significantly influenced by the resourcefulness of its inhabitants. Through sufficient and effective exploitation of the natural resources, they transformed the harsh environment into a luxurious destination for leisure, business, and other activities. Strong inspirations of the Islam culture, that touches virtually every aspect of its occupants’ daily lives, have advanced the rich Dubais lifestyle specially the Expo 2020. In addition, there are the high levels of hospitality and courtesy that exists among the Arabs, hence leading to the most highly prized of virtues within the Arab World (De Lima, 2009). Significance of Study Life in UAE faces ever-increasing cases of advancing challenges, projected to hinder the wellbeing of its inhabitants, smooth operations of businesses, the ecosystems, justices, and the livelihoods within the surrounding. Among the issue that need re-address are the inadequacies of freshwater for daily human and plants use, poor housing facilities, inadequate number of sufficient health centers that can meet the demands of those living in UAE, and high rates of pollution caused to the environment. Much of these blames are on the tourism industry, held accountable for poor management of international tourists, businesspersons, investors, inhabitants, and local tourists. This study therefore highlights steps put forth by the tourism industry, in conjunction with the local governments to address the prevailing consequences, though with a vision of further promoting the industry for more revenue generation. Research Objectives The main objectives of this project are: To know if the infrastructure that will be created for Expo 2020 would be of great benefit to Dubai to continue growing by itself into the future To find if Expo 2020 can contribute to tourism in the UAE What is the benefits of tourism companies in UAE will get from Expo 2020 To understand through personal observation, the behaviour of residents towards tourism development during Expo 2020 To develop recommendations for tourism plans and policies based on the findings of the study. Research Design This research was carried out using a mixed research approach, in which there were options of choosing more than one research method with which to collect relevant data. As part of the advantages that have been associated with this mixed research approach, it presents numerous characteristics in data collection. One of its main advantages is that by it helps in ensuring internal validity of data because it offers a researcher an opportunity to apply the most appropriate research techniques that best address issues of concern in research, without the limitation of a research to only one research method. For this study, there was an application of combined qualitative and quantitative research techniques. In this project the research design will be depends upon data collection from different tourism organization. Research instruments Research of this nature, where there is the use of both primary and secondary data collection procedures, requires that a researcher make good use of instruments, which acts as a tool for collecting data from respondents. In the correct study, the use of research instrument having recognized that there were both qualitative and quantitative data to be collected and promptly analysed to reach the best conclusion. Interview An effective accomplishment of field data collection was realized with the use of interview questionnaire surveys between April 2014 and May 2014 in UAE. The questionnaire with a cover letter describing the purpose of the study was presented to the stakeholders in the case sector, a few tourists, and the local residents in UAE, with a request that the chief executive officers, directors, coordinators, managers or individuals. For non-response samples, an enquiry was made and the major reasons cited were lack of interest, confidentiality, the in-charge person was out of the office, or corporate policy was never to disclose information. Despite the comparatively low respondent rates, which are typical for interview surveys, the number of responses was sufficient enough for the purpose of this exploratory study was conducted. Secondary Sources Under the secondary sources, quantitative study was significant. A researcher is required to engage in authenticated document researches, which are more of a secondary data collection approach, to seek answers to some parts of the research questions and research objectives. A document research was delivered in a way that involves the researcher in gaining direct access to very vital and important UAE and tourism documents that have to do with information on the predetermined outcome of the tourism industries. Geographical Area The United Arab Emirates geography includes the location of the country, the demography and the climate. Located in the Middle East and situated between Oman and Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates outlines the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf (http://www.mapsofworld.com/UAE/geography/). The geographical alignment of United Arab Emirates determines the climatic condition of the country. Located in 24 00 degree North and 54 00 degree East, the country enjoys a sub-tropical climate with extremely hot and humid conditions. United Arab Emirates Mountains make the geography of the country all the more beautiful. Mountains in United Arab Emirates make the highest point in the country. Roads, which help in transport and communication, are built along the mountainsides. Sample Size For the purpose of the study we have decided to select 50 sample sizes from the population of study. Sampling Method Sampling is the process by which inference is made to the whole by examining a part. The purpose of sampling is to provide various types of statistical information of a qualitative or quantitative nature about the whole by examining a few selected units. The samplingmethodis the scientific procedure of selecting those sampling units which would provide the required estimates with associated margins of uncertainty, arising from examining only a part and not the whole. In this research we decided to select a sample by using simple random sampling (SRS) method. Data Collection Method To examine the future tourism in the UAE the researcher made up to use the interview method in addressing issued faced by the tourism industry in UAE was accomplished through a number of instruments. For the purpose of the study we have decided to collect the data through questionnaire and interview methods. Data Analysis The collected data would be analyzed by using statistical software called SPSS Timeline References Arab News. (2004). UAE minister tells officials to face globalization challenges. Parisian Department Store :: essays research papers

The Parisian Department store in Birmingham, Alabama clearly needs to rethink their sales strategies to maximize profits. The management specifically needs to take a look at whether the new pay program achieves its intended effect of cutting costs while driving sales and how this would affect the company as a whole. The company should look at whether this program would be enough fix the problem, or does Jones need to implement more drastic measures? The first major issue was taking a look at HR issues and other related business issues that Parisian faced before they implemented the pay adjustments. As the case studies mentions, Parisian sold high merchandise, highly personalized service, high commitment to caring for its employees and communities of businesses. Jones?f goal is to raise the performance of the store and restore it to its former reputation as an upscale retailer. ISSUES: 1. Parisians payroll expenses in 2003 were 8.6% which was higher than those at comparable sister business within SDSG. 2. Hourly pay at Parisians was 12.18 and Carson paid an average of 9.54 an hour. 3. Selling costs buildup did not work because it only temporarily fixed the issue at hand. A huge issue with Parisian is that their pay system is extremely complicated when it does not have to be. Currently there are three forms of pay: base pay only, base plus commission, and commission only. The cosmetics selling cost is also an issue because cosmetics only bring in 15% of sales, but they spend 22% on payroll sales because of the expertise needed as well as the need to have a body in the bay at all times when you sign the agreement with the vendor. Taking a look at Chart B should this very theory, Parisian shows a net sales of cosmetics of 100 M which is compared to Carson?fs 250M and there people at Parisian get paid more an hour (14 versus 12). It does not make sense for a store that brings in a lot less to pay their people more. The case further explains that the high volume salespeople are paid at high commission rates and sometimes that rate can exceed selling cost benchmark. The stores with the ?gsacred cows?h were costing them a fortune have- specifically 14% sell ing cost. Table C shows that there were certain stores that were not able to have as many employees cover the floor because they had large payroll expenses.

Book Review – Servant Leader

As I started reading this book I couldn’t help but feel a sense of deja vu. Why were the thoughts and ideas being shared so familiar? Then I realized something, much like the author’s recollection of what his grandmother said. Many of these ideas were things that I had heard from my parents when I was growing up. I cannot count the number of times my father has encouraged me to be myself and true to myself and follow the right path regardless of the adversities that might come my way.Or the number of times my mother has asked me to see others as I would want them to see me and accept others for who they are. After all there is a reason why everyone isn’t alike, it would be real boring if you were to turn around and all you’d see were reflections of yourself. Why is it then that I (we) needed a book to remind me (us) of things that could be just basic common sense?Unfortunately years and years of school and college followed up with years of working in a dog -eat-dog environment has conditioned to not think about these basic things. We are trained to run as fast as we can for if we slow down someone else might take our place, we concentrate so much on running that we forget to stop and slow down once in a while to notice the important things. This book serves to remind us of the basics, to show that it is not always about win-lose, it helps us take what is common sense and helps us make it common practice. There were many things I learned from this book, but there are a few concepts that stand out. I quote the author â€Å"Leadership begins on the inside with self-awareness and self esteem and the process of leadership involves regular and intense reflection and introspection†. The order of responsibility for a servant leader should be; 1. the employee involved, 2. the affected employees and finally 3. the organization. I believe the â€Å"regenerative circle of prosperity† is a great thought. This is where the customer, the sales associate, the vendors/suppliers and the stockholders are all in a loop and mutually connected. The customer gets a quality product at a good price, the sales associate has the personal and financial gains of making a sale, the vendors get a good price for these supplies from the company and the stockholders get good returns. The returns can be reinvested to research better products for the customers and the loop continues. Finally the concept of loyalty is also handled and treated very well in the book. The author’s interpretation of the word that makes so much sense in today’s environment. I quote the author again; â€Å"Loyalty, for an employee is simply doing the job that is agreed upon and doing it to the best of one’s ability with honestly and integrity. It is being sensitive to, and acting in, the best interest of the organization, colleagues and peers†. I will carry the insights from this book throughout my career.

Intergenerational Conflict in Shakespeare - 1419 Words

Intergenerational conflict has been an ongoing issue in literature, and real life. We see intergenerational conflict in Emily Bronte’s â€Å"Wuthering Heights†, William Shakespeare’s â€Å"Hamlet†, and even in modern literature like Annemarie MacDonald’s â€Å"Fall on Your Knees†. More specifically, in Shakespeare’s plays we are introduced to many different forms of conflict. One of the most prominent is intergenerational conflict, especially in â€Å"Romeo amp; Juliet†, â€Å"A Midsummer Night’s Dream†, and â€Å"I Henry IV†. Examples of intergenerational conflict in these plays include Romeo’s defiance of his parents, Juliet’s conflict with her father, Hermia’s paternal conflicts, and King Henry’s disappointment with his son, Hal. Firstly, Romeo’s defiance and†¦show more content†¦Egeus request to put his daughter to death if she does not obey his wishes, which e xercises a higher form of control than Capulet’s threat of disownment. His wish is shown when he asks Theseus â€Å"I beg the ancient privilege of Anthens:/ As she is mine, I may dispose of her, Which shall be either to this gentleman/ Or to her death, according to our law† (I.i.41-4). However, unlike the ending in â€Å"Romeo and Juliet†, Hermia’s disobedience of her father’s wishes ends in happiness instead of the death of both lovers. Lastly, the tense relationship between Hal and his father, King Henry IV is also a Shakespearean example of intergenerational conflict. Hal’s upbringing shows similarities with the tale of the prodigal son, which was popular in the medieval time period. Hal is a disappointment to his father, which we learn when King Henry tells Westmorland that he envies the Percy family for having such a noble and honorable son: Whilst I, by looking on the praise of him, See riot and dishonor stain the brow Of my young Harry. O, that it could be proved That some night-tripping fairy had exchanged In cradle-clothes our children where they lay, And called mine â€Å"Percy,† his â€Å"Plantagenet†! (I.i.83-8). Though Hal freely associates with robbers, prostitutes, and highwaymen, he has plans to transform himself into a noble prince, which would consequently win back the praise and acceptance of his father.
